ONGO O'DU [MUSIC DAY]

Agu ongo ngopiri ni ai paleko iri [Translated from Lugbara: S/he who sings prays twice]. Music is Food for the Soul, therapeutic like Medicine, more valuable than many Elements! Plants respond to Music; Flowers in Heaven apparently can sing. We all know Birds do it very well here on Earth. There is even a certain Frequency that can heal broken Bones plus Hearts. Music can make you dance with Joy or smile; maybe Happyness [Ayiko] is a beautiful Sound in your Ears.

Lugbara Translate (Beats)
21st June is World Music Day [Wudrukuru ma Ongo O'du] while 1st October is also considered International Music Day, but Music plays everyday. Lucifer used to be in charge of Music in Heaven; he was a Cherubim Angel. However, when GOD kicked him out, the six-winged, musically-superb Devil continued with his GOD-given Talent down here on Earth through Humans. Sometimes it's hard to tell which Songs are from the Devil (though certain Lyrics may give way), but those with positive Messages especially about the Praise and Worship of GOD, Gifts of the Holy Spirit or Church are usually given the Benefit of Doubt as worth listening to. LORD, have Mercy! Blow the Trumpet [Guke]! Pianos (both foreign and local Thumb ones), Adungus, Guitars and other Instruments make great Sounds, but am truly amazed at what Harps can do, especially big ones, angelic! #GODisgreat! When will we sing a new Song...

BLACK HARMONY (Arua) Lyrics
"Leta" by BLACK HARMONY (Arua)
'Leta' in Lugbara means ‘Love’ and this jam is like a courtship song. A man sees a beautiful well disciplined girl and tells her he loves her so much that he cannot sleep. He adds that the overpowering issue leaves him so helpless that the best solution is to marry her and he wants her parents plus brother to know about it quickly. He is ready to pay 100 cows as dowry like the Karimojong do (Even though that number is too high in Lugbara culture, cows are symbols for each child to be produced) or even pay 100 Million like Europeans do...

“Adia” is a song about food and love. The man (Singing Voice) tells his lover to cook for him Mutere (Dried cassava or sweet potatoes cut into small pieces). To this, she can add Greens including adrabi, awiribi, palabi, or dodo. She must not forget salt or an appetizer in this case ‘anyu’ (Groundnut paste, a delicacy in Lugbara culinary arts)...

“Baby Gal” is a fantastic song in at least three languages mixed beautifully with Lugbara. It introduces Lady Shadia from Kampala (Buganda). She is the reference point of this inter-cultural love affair expressed by the lyrics. Her character in the song doesn’t mind that the man interested in her is not from Buganda, what matters is that he shouldn’t be a liar like most Baganda she had seen...

[INTRO:]
Shadia, Harmony, bounce along the kid, curfew the dance hall scene. Here we go.

BLACK TROUBLE Lyrics
"Alio Madririsi" (meaning ‘Because of my Poverty’) is an 11 minute song, preferably enjoyed more if performed at a large concert, about how the world looks at poor and rich people. To the singer, a poor innocent man like himself may suffer injustice and mockery but he is happier because of peace of mind at night…Meanwhile, the rich criminal man has to be weary of gold digging friends and thugs who may plan to rob or kill him. It’s basically a feel good song for those who have to hussle to barely make it through the day. You can join the dance at the end even if life is easy for you…

CHRIST THE KING KINDERGARTEN ARUA Lyrics
"Education" is a very educative song. These kids sang a masterpiece that warns that if you do not study, you may come out a Thief, Gangster, Prostitute or Drunkard en the Police will catch you. This Children's Garden or Nursery as some prefer to call them is found behind the Catholic Centre which is on Arua Avenue, opposite the Arua Local Government and adjacent to the Arua Mental Hospital.

GOSPEL ARMOUR Lyrics
"Panadol(u)" by GOSPEL ARMOUR Lyrics
In the Chorus of this Song, a Lugbara Man asks: Who is your Panadol? Then a female Voice replies: YESU-i ya! (Translated from Lugbara: JESUS it is!) HE is my Doctor every Day in Sorrow and Disease, every Hour in Misery and Trials. In the Verses, GOD does not want you to go to Witchdoctors (Sorcerors) even the ones from Tanzania. Instead, consult JESUS who raised Lazarus from the Dead, turned Water into Wine, told a lame Man to walk and fed 5,000 Men beyond Satisfaction...
